early HNT from Guam cancelled ...

... to bring you the results of my "industrious" mood early Wednesday morning.

Background: When I come home for the day, I empty out my pockets. On a shelf near the fridge, I had a steel "piggybank" can with a coin slot in the top flat surface. Pennies, nickels and dimes go in, no matter how much I have. Quarters go into a different container, for laundry usage.

I noticed yesterday that it was pretty full; it was heavy with loose change.

So from about 12:30 a.m. till about 4 a.m., I separated the coins — pennies in one bowl, nickels in another, dimes in another. I managed to count and stack the nickels and dimes during that period, and during my somewhat short lunch break Wednesday afternoon, I got the pennies done.

This is the result, all nice and neat and ready to be taken to the bank and deposited in my savings account.

750 pennies = 15 rolls at 50 cents per roll = $7.50

400 dimes = 8 rolls at $5 per roll = $40

280 nickels = 7 rolls at $2 per roll = $14

1,430 total coins for a total of $61.50

The life of DZER is just crying out for a reality show, huh?

Good Lord, man, won't the bank do that sort of thing for you???

Kisses and hugs and stop playing with your coins! You'll go blind!

Do you have those neat coinstar thingy's that you just dump the change into and it gives you a receipt that you take to the grocery clerk and exchange for cash?

Not that there's anything wrong with rolling a fat one.

heh.

I'd watch that reality show, why not?

Tonight on FOX! Watch as ONE lone man attempts the impossible, accurate coin stacking in the wee hours of the night. Tired? Yes. Pathetic? Perhaps. But there's no doubt it will be a mildly challenging night of television. Tonight at 9pm only on FOX, "1000 and 1, 1000 and 2... LOOSE CHANGE!"

Dude, don't you have a Coinstar in Guam? Then you can just dump your coins in and get a receipt for the whole dollar amount in a few minutes. I've never used one but this is my understanding of how it works.

But hey, if you like the counting, then I'm happy!

You are far more ambitious than me. We have so much change and it just sits there waiting for the coin rollin' fairies. Sigh...

The CoinStar machines aren't all they are cracked up to be. They keep 8%. Sometimes it's donated to charity but most times I'm sure it goes back to CoinStar.

Some banks and credit unions have change sorters.

Or, you could take it all to the casino and cash it in for poker chips ;-)

I have 3 small buckets on my dresser. On is for pennies, one is for quarters and the last is for both nickels and dimes. I spearated the quarters because I used to do that for poker games, but now everyone has chips. My quarter bucket probably has about $120+ in it. I would guess that nickels dimes and pennies come close to $100. There is no way I am counting all that. Chrissie come help me... please

That or I'll just take it to the credit union.

Dz: I am a change saver too. I keep a bowl on a shelf, where I empty my pockets when I get home. After the change build up a bit, I seperate it into jars. When the Jars are full, I stash them away. My bank has one of those coin-start type things, but it is free if you deposit the money into your account. It is mad money for vacation. I guess I have about a grand right now.

WOW!
You're rich!

My little brother and I used to do that with our family's coin jar too when we were kids and then buy a pizza or something with the money. ^_^

Last time I was home I saw my brother dropping coins in the coin dish and it made me realise how grown up he is now! *sniff*
