a little music goes a long way ...

Has anyone heard of, or been following, the story of the Australian gold miners? They've been trapped under tons of rock for about 8 days now, surviving in a 4-foot by 4-foot steel safety cage.

Rescuers broke through to the two men after they were down there for about six days, via a 4-inch hole drilled through 52 feet of rock more dense than concrete. Though that hole, the men were given clean clothes, egg sandwiches, water, a digital camera and iPods.

OK … a digital camera? So they can update their "trapped in a mine" blog?

"Here, let me take a picture of you all cramped and crammed into this tiny space."

But what really made me wonder was this: What's on the playlist of those iPods? Here are some of my guesses. Feel free to add yours to the comments section.

• "Coal Mine" by Inside Out

• "Coal Miner’s Daughter" by Loretta Lynn

• "She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft)" by Jerry Reed

• "Sixteen Tons" by Tennessee Ernie Ford

• "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler (once upon a time there was light in my life, now there's only love in the dark)

• "Workin' for the Man" by Roy Orbison

• "Suspicious Minds" by Elvis Presley (I'm caught in a trap; I can't get out)

• "Shout" by Tears for Fears

• "Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel

• "Lonely Teardrops" by Jackie Wilson

• "How Do I Live" by Leann Rimes

• "Help Is on Its Way" by the Little River Band

• "Five to One" by the Doors (five to one, baby, one in five. no one here gets out alive)

• "Down Under" by Men at Work

• "Dirty Laundry" by the Eagles

• "Communication Breakdown" by Led Zeppelin

• "Come a Little Bit Closer" by Jay Black and the Americans

• "Break on Through" by The Doors

First, I hope they are OK health-wise and that they make it out alive.

But once that is done...this was really funny.

And I got caught up in the egg sandwiches. It just seems an odd choice of food, really. But then again, that might just be me.

Funniest post all day!! You are hilarious!

I wish Jim Morrison was still here. He was such a talented man. Oh, and he was sooooo sexy!

You forgot Blue Sky Mine by Midnight Oil...classic mining tune by classic Aussie band.

We've been following the story here (because you can't get away from it). Oddly, the only thing I recognise that you say they got is water. I never heard about digital cameras or Ipods! Apparently they asked for bacon and eggs and meat pies but according to our papers they were only given energy biscuits (cookies to you) and vitamin pills, due to being without food for so long.

One guy wanted a copy of saturday's paper, because as soon as he gets out he's going to quit and he needs to start looking for another job.

EN: superlong cords?

natalia: they got cookies first ... I was thinking, with the initial small hole ... that Slimjims woulda made sense LOL

art: nice additions!

signgurl: thanks hon ... and Morrison was da man!

hasarder: only repeating what I heard/saw in news reports ... and that's great that the guy asked for a paper to look for a new job! too funny! LOL

Just went and looked, saw something about them getting music players and magazines, and chicken soup but nothing about cameras or egg sandwiches. Funny how different news reports concentrate on different things.

Apparently they desparately wanted to get out by the weekend to see the football... now THAT seemed strange to me. But then again, I'd desparately want to get out so I could read blogs!

Like a Rock- Bob Seger
I don't have any more songs to add to what was on the IPods, but I'm guessing as soon as they get out they'll be adding:

Take this Job and Shove It- Johnny Paycheck
(Can't Get No)Satisfaction- Rolling Stones
and
Why Don't We Get Drunk...- Jimmy Buffett

kristen: nice!

crscntmoon: wonderful additions to the playlist :)

terry: another good one!

hasarder: yes, the little details get reported a little differently by the different outlets ... and I would never be down there in the first place! and if I were, there'd be one more dead miner, because there's only room for one DZER in that little cage LOL

snow white: very nice, darlin' ... good choices!
