city mouse, country mouse ...

I've lived in all kinds of environments, over the years. I've lived in the suburbs. In a college town. Tropical island paradise — in both super-controlled environment with air conditioning and the sweltering heat of no full amenities. I've lived in the desert. I haven't lived in mountains, but I've spent enough time there to know what it's like. Same with farms, West Coast and East Coast. And the Midwest. And Texas. And swampy areas and woody areas. And a foreign place (Okinawa).

Oh, and military bases, which are suburbs but not. I've lived in medium-sized towns and small towns as well. I've lived out in the sticks, even out in the boondocks.

Where I've NEVER lived, for more than a day or so, is the big city. Any big city.

I've visited several different cities several times, but never lived there. And don't think I'd like to, really. Cities are too crowded, too noisy, too cramped. I'm sure I could live near a city, outside a city, and visit the city now and then. But to live in one, full time? Don't think so.

That being said, I don't think I'm really a country kind of guy either. I like being out in the country, and can do so for extended periods of time, but I don't think I'd like to live there permanently. There are some city-like, urban amenities that the country doesn't offer, at least not without driving for hours.

So I'm not the city mouse. I'm not the country mouse.

Am I the surburbia mouse? Tropical island mouse?

Fuck if I know.

Probably I'm an outskirts kind of guy (and a trying to get up yer skirt kinda guy).

Update:
There's a new story (to 99.9% of you) up at DZEROTICA. Enjoy!!

Random Guam Fact Of The Day:
• Two of Guam's villages — Dededo and Yigo — hold the majority of the island's population.

DZER- your mouse can visit my house any time! LOL I guess the largest city I lived in was when I was in college, but having grown up within an hours drive of Dallas, Lubbock didn't seem that big. I live in a very small town now- population about 4,000. Truly, it's not that bad. We have no movie theater, no mall, very limited shopping. That said, I can hop on the interstate and get to cities that have all of the above in 30 to 45 minutes, depending on which city I choose. I'm moving to a town with a population of about 24,000, but again, within 45 miles of a big city. That's close enough to a big city for me. Unless you have a job in the big city, I'd suggest something similar for you... live within a 30 to 45 minutes of a larger city. But of course, make sure it's not too far from a strip joint or two! ;)

I'm a country mouse that likes big city fun. I'm 20 minutes from a big city and 45 minutes from a really big city. We are luck enough to have a Home Depot, we just got a movie theater and they are building us a Wal-mart! Did I mention we also have a really big outlet mall? Good stuff...

Dzer, like you I have never lived in a big city nor do I desire to. They strike me as being too impersonal. It's nice to hear your neighbour say "Hi" when they see you.

I don't think I could cope with living in a Metropolis at all. Guam sounds like my kind of place though, would love to visit one day. ;)

Me too... the part of Fresno that I want to move to.. is sorta disconnected from the rest of it in the way that everything you need can be gotten to on a city street... but there IS 42 which connects you to the ret of the hub bub if you are doing somethin special... know what I mean?

Fresno is also the only city I could live in... I could NEVER manage SF, NY or Chicago... those are places you visit and go home!

I live in a city of 200K, including the outlying areas of the city. The big city of Detroit is just over an hour away and the country is just 15 minutes from me. I think I have the best of all worlds. Except I don't have a tropical climate :-(

mike: that's a manageable-sized town ... and I have you pegged as a stockings-and-garters guy LOL

tequila girl: sounds like a good compromise ... some amenities nearby, the others not too far :)

suze: and here I thought you and Alex were smack in the middle of downtown London for some reason ... I guess that's where I think all brits live, unless they're in the country LOL

Chrissie: I get that, totally ... big cities nice to visit, but that's about it. Hmm ... Fresno got a good newspaper? LOL

jon: big cities ... ugh ... and gotcha.

signgurl: That doesn't seem all that bad ... except the frigid winter part LOL

buttah: I'm not totally country ... but no way I could be big city ... that's just way outside of me, I guess ... though the choices in Chinese takeout places would be much bigger! LOL
